2015 HUB-BUB Artist-in-Residence Program

HUB-BUB is seeking progressive, community-minded artists who are excited about interacting with the Spartanburg community and working closely with fellow residents, HUB-BUB staff, and volunteers. The residency is 6 months from January through June for four emerging visual artists, filmmakers, and theater artists who are currently pursuing a college degree in the arts (BFA, MFA, or PhD) or who have completed one within the past five years.

Artists are provided with time and space to do their work in large apartments with ample studio space located above The Showroom Gallery & Performance Hall and HUB-BUB offices in downtown Spartanburg. Each residency is worth approximately $10,000, with all artists-in-residence having rent and utilities underwritten for the full 6 months plus a monthly stipend of $600 (less taxes and withholdings) for their work with HUB-BUB. Each artist-in-residence will be expected to spend 20 hours a week working with the Spartanburg community, including organizing and completing community art projects, setting up and bartending for live music, films, exhibitions and other events in The Showroom, contributing to the HUB-BUB blog, hanging art shows, helping with advertising, fundraisers and special events.

The program is open to emerging artists living in the United States. HUB-BUB's facilities will limit certain applicants like welders, potters, and glass artists who require excessive space or special tools. Entry fee: $35.00. Work samples may include up to 6 images, 1 audio file, and 1 video file (8 samples maximum).
