About This Call
Bunnell Street Arts Center presents an Artist in Residence program for visiting artists from Alaska, the US, and international artists to create and share artwork that activates the Arts Center's space and surrounding outdoor neighborhood sites. The program explores creative placemaking, shared values, and communal stewardship through artist-led projects featuring community engagement in media such as poetry, new media, music, ephemeral art, dance, painting, theater, installation, creative writing, or sculpture at the arts center and neighborhood sites including Bishop's Beach and Beluga Slough.
Bunnell Street Arts Center is a multidisciplinary arts center located in a landmark building overlooking Kachemak Bay and the Kenai Mountains. The main floor features a premier exhibition and performance space that doubles as an open studio for artists in residence. Private bedrooms with shared or private baths are located upstairs, along with a shared kitchen and living area.
Residencies are one month in length with an average of 3 artists in residence at a time. Selected artists receive a $1,000 stipend for one month, up to $1,000 for round-trip coach travel to Homer, and lodging in a private room with shared kitchen and living area. Wireless internet, a nipping press, small printing press, HD/3D video projector, and HD video camera are available. Artists must provide an artist talk, a workshop, and contribute at least one work of art created during the residency for installation, exhibit, performance, reading, screening, or other event in consultation with the center.
Eligible applicants are emerging and mid-career artists from the US and internationally. Submit a one-page statement of intent, one-page resume, 5 work samples (images, audio, or video), and a $25 application fee by October 1, 2015. Residencies will be awarded by December 1, 2014 and scheduled for March-May 2015.
