About This Call
The Billboard Creative (TBC) is a non-profit (501c3) organization that turns remnant, or unsold, billboards into public art sites throughout greater Los Angeles. The organization provides opportunities for artists to share their work with a broad audience and make art as accessible to Angelenos as the numerous billboards viewed everyday. For the Q4 2015 show, internationally acclaimed artist Mona Kuhn serves as curator. Well known for dream-like images of the human form, Kuhn's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world including Deichtorhallen, Le Louvre, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
TBC partners with companies that rent unsold outdoor ad space, selecting billboards from their inventory to stage month-long outdoor art shows. The number of billboards in each show will vary depending on the number of submissions received and the availability of viable billboards in well-traveled locations. All billboards will include the artist's name, and the TBC website will feature images of each selected work with the artist's name and a link to their website.
Eligibility is international and the organization accepts most forms of art including photography, painting, sculpture, written word, and web art. Currently only digital files are accepted; painters, sculptors, 3D artists, and web artists must submit images of their work. Work should be submitted per CAFE specifications. If selected, TBC will contact the artist to prepare the image/video/audio for display. The entry fee is $26.00 for the first digital file and $6.00 for each additional image. Submissions must include a minimum of 1 image and a maximum of 10 images. All proceeds from entry fees go directly toward putting the show together.
