About This Call
Thirteen sculptures are sought for a one-year outdoor public art display in Carbondale, Colorado. Installation will take place the week of May 26-June 5, 2015. Selected artists will receive a $500 honorarium to defray travel costs, home hospitality, and a $1,000 award for "Best in Show." Artists will conduct an art walk for the public, be guests of honor at a cocktail event, and participate in an artist-only gathering to share techniques and experiences.
Sculptures must be freestanding outdoor pieces safe for pedestrians and easy to maintain in an outdoor mountain environment. All pieces will be attachable to substantial concrete pedestals (48" diameter) or metal plates (4'x4'). Sculptures should be appropriate in scale for street display and must withstand sustained high winds and substantial temperature changes. There are no predispositions toward particular styles or materials, though some large and/or colorful pieces are needed.
Applicants must submit two views of one "Proposal Image" showing the piece being submitted for display, plus three additional images showing other examples of the artist's work. The weight of the piece must be included. Any special installation requirements, including detailed sculpture descriptions, dimensions (height and width), base requirements, electrical components, and equipment needs (crane, forklift, or loader) must be included in the application. Notification of selections will be made by approximately March 1, 2015. Contact Laurie Lindberg Stevens at [email protected] or 970-510-1325 for installation crew inquiries.
