About This Call

This competition is open to photographers working with alternative photographic processes. Eligible processes include Albumen, Cyanotype, Van Dyke Brown, Platinum/Palladium, Gum Bichromate, Bromoil, SaltPrint, Tintype, Ziatype, Daguerreotype, Image Transfers, Liquid Emulsion, and Photogravure. Traditional Silver Gelatin Prints, C-Prints, and Digital Prints are not eligible; however, handmade prints created from digital negatives are welcome. Framed pieces cannot exceed 48 inches in any direction. Applications must include the type of process used.

Entrants must submit between 5 and 15 images. The entry fee is $40.00 plus a $5.00 media fee. The juror is Joni Sternbach, a visiting artist at Cooper Union and faculty member at both ICP and the Center for Alternative Photography in NYC, where she teaches wet plate collodion. Sternbach uses early photographic processes to create contemporary portraits and environmental landscapes.

First Prize is a workshop at the Penumbra Foundation, sponsor of this year's competition. Second and third place prizes will also be awarded, along with two or more honorable mentions. Winning participants will be listed on sohophoto.com.
