2014 Celebrate 75 McDonald Observatory Juried Photography Show

The University of Texas at Austin's McDonald Observatory marks its 75th anniversary in 2014. The Gallery at the Fort Davis Drug Store and the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce are hosting a photography competition and exhibit in conjunction with this milestone. Accepted photographs will be exhibited throughout Fort Davis from May 17 to June 21, 2014.

All living photographers in the United States are eligible to apply. Photographs must be original work by the artist with subject matter related to McDonald Observatory. Each application consists of 1 to 3 images. The entry fee is $20 per application, non-refundable, payable by check, cash, or credit card. Photographs must not exceed 36" x 24" in finished dimensions and must be professionally framed or mounted and wired for hanging. Photography taken with traditional and digital cameras, as well as other devices including cell phones and tablets, will be considered.

Cash prizes will be awarded: 1st place - $500; 2nd place - $350; 3rd place - $200; 4th place - $100. Honorable Mention prizes of $50 will be awarded to several more depending on the number of entrants. Winners will be invited to the opening event on May 17. Selected works will be judged by a jury of three to four jurors. The Gallery will retain a 40% commission on all artwork sold, with a percentage of the commission donated to the McDonald Visitor's Center. Application deadline is April 7, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
