About This Call

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, in partnership with Arts at the Airport, is seeking proposals for 3 artistic Bonnaroo-themed displays at the Nashville International Airport in Nashville, Tennessee. Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $3,000. The displays will be suspended from the ceiling from May 12, 2014 – January 26, 2015, encompassing 3 pairs of skylights (2 skylights per concourse) located in the airport concourses on the secure side of the terminal.

Each artist will create a site-specific sculpture or kinetic mobile for two individual skylights located adjacent to one another. The skylights have glass panels open to exposed sky with no UV protective glass installed. There is a weight limit of 300 lbs. per sculpture per skylight. Projects must incorporate iconic Bonnaroo festival elements (at minimum, the Bonnaroo infinity symbol), display the 2014 location (Manchester, Tennessee) and website (Bonnaroo.com), and incorporate artists playing Bonnaroo. Projects may not include elements requiring electricity or maintenance after installation.

Applications must include: résumé (maximum 2 pages), biography (one or two paragraphs), photo or video examples of previous work (minimum 2, maximum 4), visual representation of the proposed skylight exhibit (minimum 4 images, maximum 6), written site-specific proposal description (maximum 3 pages), and brief artist statement describing how project elements would be incorporated and how the piece connects to Bonnaroo. Submissions must include dimensions, weight, installation method, all mediums used, and explanation of exhibit resistance to UV light. Applications must be submitted electronically via callforentry.org by January 29, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Selected artists will be notified February 14, 2014. Delivery and installation will occur April 28 – May 9, 2014.
