2014 Art aRound Town in Carbondale, Colorado

Fourteen sculptures are sought for a one-year outdoor public art display in Carbondale, Colorado. Installation will take place the week of May 26-June 5, 2014. Selected artists will receive a $500 honorarium to defray travel costs, home hospitality, and a $1,000 award for "Best in Show." Renowned artists James Surls and Charmaine Locke are involved with the program and will open their studios to participants. Selected artists will conduct an art walk for the public, be guests of honor at a cocktail event, and participate in an artist-only gathering to share techniques and experiences.

Submissions must include two views of one proposal image (the piece being submitted for display) plus three additional images showing other examples of the artist's work. Include the weight of the piece and any special installation requirements in the application. All sculptures must be freestanding outdoor pieces attachable to substantial concrete pedestals (provided). Sculptures must be safe for pedestrians, easy to maintain in an outdoor mountain environment, and appropriate in scale for street display. There are no predispositions toward particular styles or materials, although some large and/or colorful pieces are needed. Artists acknowledge that work may be subject to sustained high winds and substantial temperature changes, and certify that work is constructed to withstand such weather elements. Artists are responsible for ensuring work is made for public display and for identifying any special display and installation requirements.
