2014 Appalachian Pastel Society National Exhibition

The Appalachian Pastel Society National Exhibition is a biennial event open to all pastel artists from across the United States. The exhibition presents the best in pastel painting in America, featuring works by both established artists and newcomers to the medium. The 2014 exhibition runs from October 4, 2014 through January 4, 2015 at the Bascom Center for the Visual Arts in Highlands, NC.

The 2014 juror is Stan Sperlak, a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America. Sperlak will conduct a public demonstration on October 4th and join artists for the opening reception. First place award is $1500, with additional prizes and cash awards totaling over $3000.

Eligibility: Only paintings done in dry pastel may be submitted, with 80% of the exposed surface being dry pastel. No oil pastels accepted. Paintings must be entirely the work of the artist and cannot be copied from other artists or publications. Paintings done under supervision or previously exhibited in Appalachian Pastel Society National Exhibitions are not eligible. Works copied or derived from published photos without permission are not eligible. Painting size including frame may not exceed 60 inches in either direction. Nudes accepted at the judge's discretion.

Entry fee is $35 for up to three images ($30 for APS members). Submit 1-3 images in JPEG format via CaFE (www.callforentry.org). File dimensions must be no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi, with 3 MB maximum file size. Accepted artists will be notified by August 20, 2014. All artwork must be suitably framed for gallery presentation, wired and ready to hang. Accepted paintings should be shipped to arrive September 15-19, 2014, or hand-delivered September 15-16, 2014 from 10 AM-3 PM. Pickup is January 12-13, 2015 from 10 AM-3 PM.
