About This Call
The Governor's Arts Award recognizes Colorado communities that have used the arts as a focal point for community development. The Artist Selection Committee will commission an artwork to serve as the award presented to the winning Colorado community during the ceremony in spring 2013. A total of two awards will be created by the selected artist. One award will be placed in a public location in the winning town or city, and the second will become part of the State of Colorado's permanent Governor's Art Award collection in the Colorado State Capitol.
Eligibility is open to all 3-dimensional artists residing in Colorado. The two finished artworks must be similar in size and media, be able to hang on a wall or be placed on a flat surface, and be related to each other thematically. The artwork should speak to the overall mission of the Governor's Arts Award and may reference the uniqueness of Colorado or the important role arts and culture play in creating strong communities. Artworks can be made of metal, glass, pottery, ceramics, wood, stone, mixed media, or fiber. The artwork may not contain nudity, profanity, or other inflammatory language or subject matter. The project budget is up to $5,750 for a total of two works of art, installation ready, with completion required by Friday, March 22, 2013.
Applicants must submit 6 digital images of recent work (within the past two years), a current artist resume, and a brief statement explaining their interest in the commission through www.callforentry.org. The submission deadline is Midnight (MST) on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The Artist Selection Committee will review submissions and select one finalist based on past work and applicability. The finalist will present design ideas to the committee at a Conceptual Design Review in December 2012. Upon acceptance of the final design, the artist must complete and deliver the artworks by March 22, 2013.
