About This Call
The Gloucester Committee for the Arts, on behalf of the City of Gloucester, MA, is seeking professional artists and/or artist teams for 3 new public art commissions. Artists are invited to submit proposals to design, create, and complete public art work in downtown Gloucester for the HarborWalk.
The total project budget is $47,000, distributed as follows: $20,000 for one permanent project; two additional commissions totaling $27,000, with at least one being temporary. The minimum project budget is $7,500. All applicants must identify how their proposed project is significant to Gloucester and the HarborWalk. Open to all professional artists and design teams/professionals, age 18 or older, residing in the United States, working in all media and creative art forms. Artists may submit up to two proposals. Submissions are limited to 500 entrants.
Submissions must include 6 photographs depicting sketches, design boards, drawings, plans, maquettes, or models describing the concept and project. All proposals will be reviewed anonymously in a blind review process. The selection process is two-stage: Stage One will short-list at least nine semi-finalists; Stage Two will select three finalists who will be awarded the commissions. The jury panel includes Andrée Bober (Landmarks Director, University of Texas, Austin), Trevor Smith (Curator of Contemporary Art, Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA), and Peter Sollogub/Chris Muskopf (Architects, Cambridge Seven Associates, MA).
