About This Call
The Town of Snowmass Village and the Snowmass Arts Advisory Board invite professional and amateur Colorado artists to design bicycle racks for the community. The project acknowledges the popularity of bicycling and the need for safe and secure bicycle parking in Snowmass Village.
Bicycle racks must accommodate between two and four bicycles, each with two points of contact to minimize wheel bending, and allow for easy use when locking bicycles with a U-lock connecting the frame and at least one wheel to the rack. Racks must be constructed of durable materials able to withstand permanent exposure to elements, particularly Ice Slicer and/or Magnesium Chloride, and wear from bicycles and locks. Safety, maintenance, and environmental stewardship are primary concerns. Designs should feature rugged construction for public use, be suitable for children and community members of all ages and abilities, and require minimal maintenance. No dangerous or sharp edges, nothing breakable by hand, no easily removable connections, and consideration of fire and lightning safety are required. Contact points to the ground must be secured by no less than two connecting points.
The Snowmass Arts Advisory Board has $20,000 to be awarded in August 2013, not to exceed $4,000 for each bicycle rack design, fabrication, and delivery. Artists must submit seven copies of their proposal including a detailed description with 1-4 images (sketch, rendering, or digital), digital images of past work (maximum 10), biographical material including resume and awards, explanation of fabrication and installation capabilities, client references if available, approach to creating compelling and enduring artwork, methodology for design through installation, and a firm budget figure not to exceed $4,000. Selection of finalists is scheduled for August 15th, 2013. Winning artists will have approximately 12 weeks to complete the work and ship to Snowmass Village and must sign a contractual agreement with the Town.
