About This Call

The Tennessee Association of Craft Artists (TACA) seeks entries for its Biennial Exhibition, The Best of Tennessee Craft, to encourage and promote a high standard of excellence and design among Tennessee craft artists and to provide public visibility and recognition for the quality and diversity of crafts found in Tennessee. Up to 100 pieces of artwork will be selected for this fine craft exhibition. The exhibition is open to original works of craft created by craft artists 18 years or older who are current residents of Tennessee, including students. Eligible craft categories include basketry, clay, fiber, glass, wood, metals, leather, handmade paper, mixed media, printmaking, photography, and other. Work must be original, completed since August 2010, and not previously exhibited at a TACA Biennial. Paintings and drawings will not be accepted.

The 2012 Biennial Exhibition will be hosted by the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, from August 24 through October 21, 2012. A public reception will be held on Saturday, September 29. Guest juror Martha Connell, owner and director of the former Connell Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia, will select works for the exhibition. Connell has curated numerous museum exhibitions and served as juror for many arts festivals and craft shows, including the Philadelphia Craft Show, Smithsonian Craft Show, and Winter Park Arts Festival.

Artists may submit up to three pieces for jurying, with each piece represented by one image. The entry fee is $35 ($30 for current TACA members). All entry forms must be electronically submitted by midnight May 17, 2012. The guest juror will select works to receive cash awards, including a $500 Best of Show. Selected artists will be notified by May 30. The Tennessee State Museum will handle all sales with a 40% commission. Artists are responsible for transportation costs and insurance while artwork is in transit. Work must be received at the Museum between August 6-10, 2012.
