About This Call
Colorado Creative Industries invites Colorado visual artists to submit work for a commission to create two original artworks for the 2012 Governor's Arts Award. The award recognizes and honors a Colorado town or city that celebrates and uses the arts as a focal point for community development.
Eligibility is open to all visual artists residing in Colorado. The selected artist will be commissioned to create two finished artworks similar in size and media that can hang on a wall and are related thematically. The artwork should speak to the mission of the Governor's Arts Award, potentially referencing the uniqueness of Colorado or the role arts and culture play in creating strong communities. Artwork may not contain nudity, profanity, or inflammatory language or subject matter. One award will hang in a public location in the winning community; the second will become part of the State of Colorado permanent art collection in the Colorado State Capitol. The budget is $5,750 for both framed pieces, with completion required by March 20, 2012.
Applicants must submit 6 digital images of recent work (within the past two years), a current resume, and a brief statement explaining their interest in the commission through www.callforentry.org. The submission deadline is Midnight MST on Friday, October 28, 2011. The Artist Selection Committee will review submissions and select one finalist to present conceptual design ideas in early December 2011. For questions, contact Kim Harrell at [email protected] or 720-203-3575.
