2012 Cary Visual Art Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition

Sculpture artists from across the nation are invited to participate in the 2012 Cary Visual Art Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition, running August 10, 2012 through June 21, 2013. Organized and presented by Cary Visual Art with the support of the Town of Cary, this exhibition offers established and emerging artists the opportunity to display their sculptures throughout downtown Cary, North Carolina.

Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and reside in the U.S. Entries must be submitted through CallForEntry.org by March 23, 2012. A $25 non-refundable entry fee is required. For every two sculptures submitted, a $25 entry fee must be collected (totaling 4 images, with 2 different views per sculpture). Maquettes or models will not be considered. Selected works must be suitable for outdoor installation, capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions, fabricated with non-hazardous materials, and maintenance-free for the duration of the exhibition.

Awards: Up to twelve finalists will be selected for installation on the Town Hall Campus and throughout downtown Cary. Each finalist whose work is installed will receive a $1,000 honorarium to offset transportation and incidental expenses. The juror, Jeffrey York, will choose ten finalists and award a Best in Show prize of $3,000. Two sculptures will be selected by a Cary Visual Art panel to represent the "community's choice." Honoraria checks will be mailed within one week after installation. A W-9 form must be completed by the artist before payment can be made.

Installation: Installation must take place on Friday, August 10, 2012. Artists are responsible for delivery of works to and from downtown Cary and for securing installation of their sculptures. Cary Visual Art will supply equipment and volunteers for installations on August 10, 2012 only. Artists must indicate on the entry form how their sculpture will anchor to the ground and specify if they need a concrete pad (4'x4' or 5'x5' available) or crane assistance. De-installation must occur between June 21-28, 2013. Artists unable to meet scheduled installation requirements are not eligible. A special reception will be held on the evening of August 10, 2012; sculptors are expected to be available to speak and must complete installation before this event.

Liability: Cary Visual Art and the Town of Cary will not be responsible for loss of or damage to sculptures. Artists are advised to insure their artwork. All sculptures sold during or within 90 days after the exhibition will be assessed a 30% commission by Cary Visual Art, Inc. Notification of acceptance will be provided on or before June 15, 2012.
