About This Call
The Governor's Arts Award recognizes and honors a Colorado town or city that celebrates and uses the arts as a focal point for community development. The Artist Selection Committee will commission an artwork to serve as the award presented to the winning Colorado community during the ceremony in spring 2011. A total of two finished artworks will be created by the selected artist. The second award will become part of the State of Colorado's permanent art collection and will hang in the Colorado State Capitol.
The two finished artworks must be similar in size and media, be able to hang on a wall, and be related to each other thematically. The artwork should speak to the overall mission of the Governor's Arts Award, potentially referencing the uniqueness of Colorado (its landscape, people, arts and culture) and/or the important role arts and culture play in creating strong communities. The finished artworks must be presented framed and completed by February 10, 2011. Artwork may not contain nudity, profanity, or other inflammatory language or subject matter as this award will be placed in a public location.
Artist Requirements: Must be a Colorado resident. Applicants must submit 6 digital images of recent work (within past two years), a current resume, and a brief statement explaining interest in the commission through www.callforentry.org. Budget: $5,750 for two framed pieces of art. The Artist Selection Committee will review submissions and select one finalist based on past work and applicability. The finalist will prepare sketches or design ideas for a Conceptual Design Review in early December. Upon acceptance of the final design, the artist must complete and deliver the artworks by February 10, 2011.
