About This Call
The Charlotte Street Foundation Generative Performing Artist Awards recognize and support outstanding, innovative generative performing artists creating original, new work in the fields of dance, theater, music, experimental music performance, theater/performance art, and hybrid/interdisciplinary versions thereof. These unrestricted cash awards recognize accomplishment, achievement, and continued promise in the artistic areas described above.
Eligibility requirements: Recipients must be generative performing artists who have resided in the five-county Metropolitan Kansas City area (Jackson, Clay, Platte, Wyandotte, Johnson counties) since at least March 1, 2010; be 21 years of age or older as of March 1, 2011; and have graduated from undergraduate school no later than March 2010. Artists will be selected based on the quality and originality of work as evidenced in submitted materials, promise for continued artistic development, and relevance of work in relation to local, regional and national contemporary arts/performance discourse and in relation to the contemporary moment and culture.
Two awards of $7,500 each will be distributed. The 2011 panel of Awards Advisors includes Cynthia Rider (Managing Director, Kansas City Repertory Theatre), Peter Witte (Dean, UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance), Susan Warden (choreographer), Don Adams (performing arts and cultural consultant), and Sixto Wagan (Co-Director and Performance Curator of DiverseWorks, Houston).
