About This Call
The Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts seeks to commission a Media Façade of the highest aesthetic standards for the University of Hawai'i, West Oahu campus that contributes to the well-being of students, staff, and community. Artists using a variety of artistic approaches and media are encouraged to apply.
The Glass Tower, located at the north end of the Library, is integral to the central campus composition and serves as a beacon to those on campus and the surrounding community. The glass portion of the tower is roughly 33' tall with glass on two predominant sides (North/West and South/East corners): the wide side of each is approximately 28' and the narrow side of each is approximately 10'. Art may be mounted inside the building on the window mullion or in the tower. The glass curtain wall and tower will be existing, not part of the artist commission.
Project Budget: $250,000, paid directly to the artist in five phases over an estimated two-year period (August 2011-August 2012). Eligibility: Open to professional, practicing artists with previous public art experience. Selection criteria include artistic merit as evidenced by digital representation of past work, appropriateness of the artist's medium and style to the project goals, experience with projects of similar scale and scope, and demonstrated ability to respond to the distinctive characteristics of the site and community. Application deadline: April 24, 2011. Adjudication: May 10, 2011. Recommendation: June 8, 2011. Submit 10 images of past work. Contact: Jonathan Johnson, (808) 586-9954, [email protected].
