About This Call

The South Florida Cultural Consortium, a partnership among the local arts agencies of Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties, offers fellowships to nurture the artistic development of eligible visual and media artists who reside in one of these counties. Fellowships are not project-based; recipients may use the fellowships according to their individual needs.

Fellowships of $15,000 and $7,500 are awarded to selected visual and media artists. No more than two fellowships of $7,500 may be awarded in each county. All emerging, mid-career and established South Florida professional artists residing in Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe or Palm Beach County are eligible to apply. Professional artists are defined as persons who have created a recognized body of original works of art within an artistic discipline over a sustained period of time and who are striving to achieve the highest level of professional recognition. Applicants must be over 18 years of age and must have resided and worked in one of the participating five counties from October 1, 2007 to October 1, 2008. Artists engaging in art work as a hobby, employees of participating County governments or member local arts agencies, and non-professional student artists pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees are not eligible.

Applications must be submitted in digital format online via CAFÉ by October 1, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. There is no application fee. Visual artists must submit ten digital images presenting an overview of their work, including title, dimensions, medium and date of each work; a resume; a statement about their work; and no more than two support materials in .pdf or MS Word format. Media artists must submit ten still images representing the visual component of the work, title and date of media work, a resume, a statement about their work, and no more than two support materials. Media artists must also send one video (VHS), audio cassette, or DVD (maximum 10 minutes total, no more than three work samples) to the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, 111 NW 1st Street, Suite 625, Miami, Florida 33128, Attn: Brandi Reddick. All work samples must have been completed within the last three years prior to the application date. Submissions are reviewed by regional panels of visual arts and media arts experts, with recommendations forwarded to a national panel. The national panel's recommendations are reviewed and ratified by the South Florida Cultural Consortium. Miami-Dade County applicants forwarded to the national panel can be considered for solo exhibitions at The Art Gallery at Government Center.
