2009 Pacific Northwest Plein Air Painting Exhibition

The 2009 Pacific Northwest Plein Air Painting Exhibition invites artists to submit work for a juried exhibition held August 27 - September 30, 2009. Any resident of the United States is eligible to apply, provided submitted artwork was painted on location in the Pacific Northwest: British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, or Montana. Applications must be submitted online by June 30, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Applicants must submit 6 digital images and an artist statement. Entry fee is $25.

Thirty artists will be selected through a screening process conducted by a committee of regional art collectors, artists, and arts professionals. Selected artists are invited to participate in a Paint Out event during the week prior to the September exhibition opening. All artwork must be original in concept and executed by the artist within the last two years. At least 85% of each painting must be completed onsite and outdoors to be considered "Plein Air." Accepted media include oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. Artwork, including frames, shall not exceed 50 inches in either direction with a minimum image size of 2" x 3". All work must be professionally framed, wired, and ready for hanging.

Accepted artists may submit up to 6 pieces, with at least 4 pieces guaranteed to be displayed. All artwork must be for sale and priced with intent to sell. The gallery retains a 40% commission, with 60% going to the artist. Awards include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, as well as Artists Choice and People's Choice awards. The juror is Ned Mueller, a member of the Plein Air Painters of America. Artwork delivery is August 31, 2009 by 5:00 p.m. at Columbia Art Gallery, 215 Cascade Street, Hood River, OR 97031. Notification of acceptance will be sent by July 15, 2009.
