About This Call
The Governor's Arts Award recognizes and honors a Colorado town or city that celebrates and uses the arts as a focal point for community development. The selected artist will be commissioned to create two finished framed artworks to serve as the award presented to the winning Colorado community during a summer 2008 ceremony. One award will be presented to the community, and the second will become part of the State of Colorado permanent art collection and will hang in the Colorado State Capitol.
The two finished artworks must be similar in size and media, be able to hang on a wall, and be related to each other thematically. The artwork should speak to the overall mission of the Governor's Arts Award, potentially referencing the uniqueness of Colorado (its landscape, people, arts and culture) and/or the important role arts and culture play in creating strong communities. The artwork may not contain nudity, profanity, or other inflammatory language or subject matter as this award will be placed in a public location. The finished artworks must be completed by June 23, 2008.
Artist Requirements: Must be a resident of Colorado. Submission deadline is March 6, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Applicants must submit 6 digital images of recent work (within past two years), a current artist resume, and a brief statement explaining their interest in being considered for this commission through www.callforentry.org. Budget: $5,250 for two finished framed pieces. The Artist Selection Committee will review submissions and select one finalist based on past work and applicability. The finalist will have four weeks to prepare sketches or design ideas for a Conceptual Design Review in mid-April. Upon acceptance of the final design, the artist must complete and deliver the artworks by June 23.
