About This Call
The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences presents the inaugural Plein Air Plus+ Exhibition, juried by Nancy Tankersley, a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and founding member of Plein Air Easton.
Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years and older in the continental US. Artists must submit 3 images of previous work painted in the past two years. Painting media can include oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. Images must be JPEGs up to 5MB with a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi resolution. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 entries (non-refundable). An artist statement must be included with the application. Approximately 35 artists will be selected to participate in the Paint Out event.
The "Island Life" exhibition will be held September 9 - October 24, 2016, with an Opening Reception and Awards Presentation on Sunday, September 25, from 2-5 pm. Selected artists may submit either classical Plein Air paintings (up to four paintings completed on site without photography) or Plein Air Plus paintings (two classical Plein Air paintings and one Plein Air Plus painting, up to 36 inches wide and 48 inches long, inspired by Long Beach Island and completed in the artist's studio). All work must be made during July 5 - September 5, 2016. Subject themes include beaches, salt marshes, Barnegat Bay, island towns, water sports, surfing, fishing, boating, and family entertainment venues. Cash awards include First Prize of $500 for both classical Plein Air and Plein Air Plus categories, plus additional awards including Passport to LBI Award, People's Choice Award, and LBIF Art Committee Award. Artwork must be ready to hang and firmly wired. Submitted work must be available for the duration of the exhibition and may not be withdrawn prior to closing. Work that is copied or done under instructor guidance is not eligible. Entries must not have been previously exhibited at LBIF.
