About This Call
The Arts Council Wichita Falls' 18th Annual Sculpture Garden Exhibition at the Kemp Center for the Arts (1300 Lamar Street, Wichita Falls, TX 76301) is a year-long exhibition accepting 10 outdoor sculpture pieces. All forms of outdoor sculpture will be considered, provided it meets the prospectus requirements. The juror is artist Dewane Hughes, a recipient of multiple awards for past Sculpture Garden exhibitions. Sculptures will be on display for 12 months from installation in May 2022 and will be placed throughout the site at the sole discretion of the contracted installer and Arts Council staff. The exhibit space surrounds a public building with areas in open sunlight and shaded by large trees, with an irrigation system in place. Artwork will be placed on steel plates on soft ground; no concrete installation areas are available.
Accepted artists will receive an installation stipend totaling $1,500 ($750 on completed installation and $750 on completed uninstallation). Artists attending the opening reception on May 14, 2022 will be provided with one hotel room for up to two nights. Three cash awards will be given by the juror: 1st prize ($2,500), 2nd prize ($1,000), and 3rd prize ($500), presented at the opening reception and distributed within 30 days.
Sculptures should be garden-sized or larger (at least 3 feet in one dimension recommended) and made from durable materials including metal, stone, ceramic, or other materials that withstand outdoor elements and irrigation system contact. Pieces must be able to attach to ¼" steel plate for installation. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of all artwork at their own expense. Artwork does not need to be for sale, but if listed for sale, the Arts Council will receive a 30% commission and collect sales tax. Entry fee is $25. Accepted artists must attend the opening reception and agree to keep artwork on display for the full 12-month duration. Artists will be notified of pickup dates no less than 30 days prior to removal in 2023.
