About This Call
The City of Lakeland, Florida, in cooperation with the Polk Museum of Art, is accepting submissions from sculptors for the 18th Annual Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition. This call is open to all sculptors working in North America. Selected sculptures will be exhibited for one year in downtown Lakeland from February 2018 through February 2019. Sculptures will be publicized and a People's Choice Award will be given based on community voting.
Submissions must be received by December 31, 2017, with a $25 nonrefundable application fee per artist. Submit 2-6 images of completed works in .jpg format, along with an image list, professional résumé, and artist statement. Work must be suitable for outdoor installation and capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions, high traffic, and public park environments. Sculptures must be structurally secured to a concrete pad with anchor bolts or similar devices, maintenance-free during the exhibition period, and installed no later than March 3, 2018. Installation must be accomplished with tools provided by the artist, with access to a crane available on weekdays before 3 p.m.
Each selected artist will receive a $1,500 honorarium to cover transportation, installation, de-installation, and incidental expenses. The People's Choice Award winner receives an additional $1,000. Artists may sell work during the exhibition period, but pieces must remain onsite for the full duration. The City of Lakeland will provide insurance throughout the exhibition period. Works will be selected by a committee composed of City of Lakeland staff, Polk Museum of Art representatives, and local arts community members.
