About This Call
The 17th Annual Emerald Spring Exhibition is a juried painting competition open to all artists 18 years or older. The juror is Bets Cole, an award-winning artist known for her dramatic large-scale charcoal drawings and colorful acrylic and gouache paintings.
Qualifying media include oil, watercolor, acrylic, encaustic, or pastel, or combinations thereof. Mixed media paintings require a statement of execution. Excluded from the competition are drawings, photography, digitally or computer enhanced work, hand-pulled prints, giclées, and reproduction prints. All artwork must be no larger than 42" in any direction including frame. Diptychs and triptychs must be contained in one frame meeting size requirements. All entries are presented to the juror anonymously.
The entry fee is $45 for 2 images. Additional images up to 4 total are $50 for 3 images or $55 for 4 images. Artists may submit up to four images per entry but only one entry per artist will be included in the exhibition. Digital image files must include title, media, and dimensions. Accepted work that differs significantly from the submitted image will be rejected.
The exhibition runs May 3 - June 2, 2023 at Emerald Art Center, 500 Main Street, Springfield, OR 97477. Cash prizes include $1500 Best of Show, $1000 Gold Medal, $700 Silver Medal, $500 Bronze Medal, $300 Award of Distinction, $250 People's Choice Award, and $250 Founder's Award, plus various Merit and Recognition Awards. An Artist's Award Reception is scheduled for May 6.
Artwork must be installation ready upon delivery, framed with secure hanging wire (no saw tooth hangers), and shipped with plexiglass protection and prepaid return shipping. Emerald Art Center retains 35% commission on artwork sold during the exhibition. Accepted artwork must remain on display for the duration of the exhibit. Artists will be notified by March 26 via email of acceptance. All entrants grant Emerald Art Center the right to use or publish images of their work to promote the exhibition and future calls.
