About This Call

Open to living artists 18 years or older, regardless of geographic location. Artists may submit a digital image of one or two different original artworks, but only one piece per artist may appear in the exhibition. Entry fee is $35 for nonmembers; CPSA members receive a 28% discount. Deadline for entries is 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time, March 31, 2009.

Artwork must be created using colored pencil only. Acceptable additions include solvents and graphite pencil used under, between, or over layers. Artwork must be 2-dimensional on a single surface with no collage or montage. Pieces must have been completed after March 31, 2006 and not previously exhibited in any CPSA exhibition. The concept, design, and execution must be solely the artist's work with no copying from copyrighted or published materials, no digital reproductions, prints, or collaborations. Framed size cannot exceed 32x40 inches. Mats must be white, off-white, tan, gray, or black; frames should be simple in design. Artwork must be ready to hang by wire with plexiglas only—no glass or clip-on frames.

Selection involves two steps: jurors select artwork based on artistic merit, and artists are notified of acceptance on the CPSA website. Accepted artists are responsible for all shipping expenses to and from the exhibition using sturdy reusable cartons. Artwork arriving in unsuitable boxes will be returned COD and disqualified. The Hudgens Center for the Arts carries insurance for artwork on premises, but artists should insure their own work. Artwork may be priced for sale or not for sale; the Hudgens Center charges a 30% commission on sales. Numerous monetary awards and the CIPPY Best of Show award are presented annually; last year cash awards totaled over $16,000. CPSA members may earn Signature status by having their art appear in three CPSA International Exhibitions within 10 years. Exhibition dates: July 9 - August 29, 2009.
