About This Call

Blue Line Arts invites artists to participate in the 16th annual "Lottery for the Arts" fundraiser. This event raises funds directly supporting arts education programs for children, including free field trips for local underserved schools, youth mural projects, summer camps, and scholarships. By donating artwork, artists help students experience the transformative power of art.

There is no theme requirement for submissions. Artists are requested to submit original artwork or limited-edition archival prints valued at least $350. This is a free opportunity to submit work with the understanding that if selected by the juror, it will be a 100% donation to Blue Line Arts. Submissions may include up to 3 works (1-3 images required). All artists must be 18 or older and are open to national eligibility.

Juror Pat Kemeny Macias, Director & Curator at the Museum of Northern California Art, will select pieces. Juror's selections for First, Second, and Third Place are offered solo shows at Blue Line Arts in 2025 or 2026. Additional awards include a Board Choice Award ($100) and First Pick Award ($100). All accepted artists will be featured in Blue Line Arts' Artist Directory on their website for 2025, providing increased visibility and SEO benefits. Accepted pieces will appear on the Blue Line Arts website and be featured in e-blasts and social media prior to the event. A QR code will be included with each artwork label directing to the artist's chosen website link.

Artwork will be on display in the gallery March 1-14, 2025. A Preview Night reception for participating artists and invited guests will be held Friday, February 28th from 5-7pm, where First, Second, and Third Place awards and Board's Choice Award will be announced. The Lottery Event takes place Saturday, March 15th, 2025 from 5-9pm. Ticket holders select artwork at random; any remaining pieces go to bidding and then a week-long silent auction. Unsold artwork after the silent auction may be left as a tax-deductible donation or returned at the artist's shipping expense.

Two-dimensional artwork must be ready to hang with wire installed (no sawtooth hangers). Artwork must fit through doors with 94" h x 91" w clearance; ceilings are 10 feet tall. Installation artworks are welcome with no heavy machinery on site. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to the gallery. Accepted artwork that differs significantly from submitted images may be disqualified. Artists retain reproduction rights to their work. Participating artists are invited to Preview Night free and may purchase lottery tickets before the public. Contact: (916) 783-4117 or [email protected].
