About This Call

Art in Public Places, a non-profit organization based in Bend, Oregon, is seeking artists and artist teams to design and create public art sculptures for the 15th Street & Knott Road Roundabout in southeast Bend. The roundabout, which opened in 2020, is located in the heart of the city's expansion near Caldera High School and Alpenglow Park. Art in Public Places has been donating public art throughout Bend since 1973, including large-scale sculptures for 20 roundabouts and numerous works for local institutions.

The commission calls for a series of wolves depicting a Wolfpack to honor Caldera High School's mascot. The roundabout is 108 feet in diameter with a central sculpture area of 41 feet by 26 feet. The total project budget is $130,000, which includes permits, engineering drawings, fabrication, delivery, insurance, installation, and traffic mitigation. Selected finalists will receive a $1,750 stipend for travel and design time. Artists must submit a letter of interest and six digital images of completed outdoor sculptures or installations from the last 12 years by October 25, 2023. Three to four finalists will be selected to develop design proposals, which will be presented via Zoom in late February 2024. The commission will be awarded in late April 2024, with installation scheduled for summer 2024.

Eligibility is open to artists and artist teams residing in the Northwest and Southwest United States, including Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Women, and LGBTQAI+ community members are highly encouraged to apply, as are Oregon residents. Questions may be directed to Marcelene Trujillo, AiPP Project Coordinator, at [email protected].
