About This Call
The 15th Annual Wayne Art Center Plein Air Festival runs May 7-12, 2023, bringing 32 juried, nationally recognized and emerging artists to Wayne, Pennsylvania to paint the spring landscape of the Delaware Valley. As one of the premier plein air events in the country, the festival showcases work created during the event in spacious, light-filled galleries at Wayne Art Center (413 Maplewood Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087) in an exhibition running through June 24, 2023. The galleries attract more than 30,000 visitors annually, and sales during the Wayne Plein Air Exhibition remain steady throughout the six-week run.
Participating artists work on locations throughout the surrounding areas, which feature varied landscapes including quaint small towns with period architecture, rolling hills, and dynamic skyline views of Center City Philadelphia and its waterfronts along the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers. A week of intense work culminates in an exhibition of more than 300 paintings. Participating artists are housed by local residents and Wayne Art Center committee members whenever possible and are invited to a welcome breakfast on Sunday, May 7. The exhibition opens with a Gala Preview Party and Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 12 (6-10pm) where awards totaling $20,000 will be presented by Juror of Awards Shana Kunz. A Juror's Demo and Talk with Shanna Kunz follows on Saturday, May 13 at 1pm, and a three-day plein air painting workshop with Kunz is offered May 15-17.
Entry fee is $45. Artists may submit 1-4 JPG images (minimum 300 dpi, 1200 pixels or greater on longest side, under 5 MB). Open to artists 18 and older from the United States. Artists accepted to the festival may not exhibit at other galleries within a 50-mile radius of Wayne Art Center during the exhibition period (May 12-June 24, 2023). Unsold artwork must be retrieved by July 28, 2023. Contact: Pam McLean-Parker, [email protected], 610.688.3553 x211. Register at www.waynepleinair.org.
