15th Annual Portland Open Studios

Portland Open Studios is a juried studio tour of 100 artists in the Portland metro area, providing a unique opportunity for artists to open their studios to the public. Now in its 15th year, the tour is an important and anticipated annual arts event. The ticketed event attracts visitors from the community and beyond, with attendees able to purchase a printed Tour Guide, iPhone app, or be personally invited by artists to their studios.

Eligibility is open to all visual media except film. Artists must be residents of Portland, Tigard, Beaverton, Aloha, Milwaukie, Oak Grove, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Lake Oswego, West Linn, or Tualatin, and are required to open their studio and demonstrate their working methods during both weekend dates. The entry fee is $35. A participation fee of $150 and volunteer opt-out fee of $175 are collected upon acceptance. Three jurors from Portland's arts community view and score submitted images to determine which artists are invited to participate. Selection notification occurs April 1, with evening workshops in May and August. The studio tour takes place October 12, 13, 19, and 20, with studios open 10-5.

Benefits include expanding your audience by demonstrating your methods and sharing your work, the opportunity to sell work directly to the public, artwork published in a full-color Tour Guide with contact information, a dedicated page on the website featuring three images, website link and artist statement, five free Tour Guides and studio signs, and two free workshops providing tour information and professional tips. Artists may be invited to exhibitions, asked to sell their work, become the subject of news articles, or invited to teach classes as a result of participation. The Kimberly Gales Emerging Artist Scholarship is available for artists 20-30 years of age, with the recipient receiving all fees waived and a $100 stipend.
