About This Call
The 15th Annual PleinAir Salon Art Competition is an online juried competition for original plein air paintings and drawings. There are 19 categories to enter, with a limit of 25 entries per artist per monthly competition.
Eligibility: All individuals must be at least 18 years of age. Competition is open to residents of any state or country where acceptable by law. Employees or associates of Streamline Publishing, Inc., or their immediate families may not enter. All entries must be original compositions painted 100% by the entering artist and cannot be based on published work or another person's photograph. Plein air category entries must be completed 100% in plein air, though this can take place over multiple sessions. Photography, AI, digital, printed or painted over photographs are prohibited.
Entry Fees: Early Bird (1st-15th of month): First entry $29, additional entries $12. Regular (16th-month-end): First entry $40, additional entries $16. Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the deadline. Entries cannot be accepted or changed after January 31, 2026.
Image Requirements: Submit original, high-quality JPEG files at least 1500 pixels on the longest edge with a maximum file size of 30 MB. Images should use sRGB color profile. Crop images to include only the artwork itself with no mat, frame, or background visible. Ensure correct orientation.
Awards: Grand Prize - $15,000 plus painting featured on PleinAir Magazine cover. Second Place - $3,000. Third Place - $2,000. Three Honorable Mention Awards - $700 each. Six Best Medium Awards - $450 each. Artist's Choice Award - $200. Category awards include one Winner ($50) and one Honorable Mention per category. A painting can only win once. Monthly winners are automatically entered into the Annual Competition judging. Winners are announced on the last day of the month following the competition.
Judging uses a blind system where judges see only the painting, title, and medium. Guest judges include prominent artists, gallery owners, and museum curators and directors. For questions, contact [email protected].
