About This Call
The 13th Annual Sanchez Art Center 50|50 Show invites California artists age 18 and over to create 50 small works (6" x 6") over 50 days. Each artist chooses a theme for all 50 pieces. Creation begins June 28 and ends August 16, 2021, with the exhibition running September 10 – October 10, 2021.
Eligibility is limited to California artists. The entry deadline is Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11:00 pm Pacific Daylight Time. The non-refundable entry fee is $25. Accepted artists must pay an additional $75 participation fee upon acceptance to cover materials and exhibition expenses. Applicants must submit 3–10 artwork images (JPEG or JPG files under 5 MB, 1200 pixels or more on the longest side) or up to 6 sample videos in the medium(s) they will use. A proposed theme (maximum 10 words) and optional work description (300 characters maximum) are required.
Sanchez Art Center will provide each accepted artist with 50 unprimed medium-density fiberboard (MDF) panels (6" x 6" with pre-drilled nail holes), hanging supplies, and installation templates. All fine art visual media are accepted; artists may prime and paint on panels or attach canvas, drawings, or watercolor paper. 3D sculptures may be attached to wall-mounted panels or stand on SAC-approved shelves. Each piece must fit within 6" x 6" x 6". Artists are responsible for delivering and installing their works between 11 am and 6 pm on Saturday August 28, Sunday August 29, or Monday August 30. The 50 panels will be hung unframed in a 7x7 grid with 1" spacing between panels; one work will hang separately and may be framed (optional, maximum 10" width). All artworks will be for sale at uniform pricing per artist ($45 minimum, guideline $50–$175 each). Sanchez Art Center will process sales and take a 30% commission. Benefits include an intense creative experience, exhibition of approximately 2,500 works with an estimated audience of 1,000 or more viewers, fellowship with other artists, and opportunity to make work available to a broader audience.
