About This Call
The City of Aurora Art in Public Places Program and the Havana Business Improvement District are seeking thirteen outdoor sculptures for exhibition on Havana Street in Aurora, CO, for two years. The exhibit is scheduled to open in October 2024, with installation in the first week of October 2024 and de-installation in mid-September 2026.
Eligibility is regional for artists residing in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Kansas, and Nebraska. Sculptures must be three-dimensional, freestanding works of any medium suitable for outdoor exhibition. Artwork must be made from materials appropriate for outdoor conditions, including high summer temperatures (above 100°F), low winter temperatures (below 0°F), high winds, hail, significant snowfall, and extreme sun. Size requirements: minimum 4 feet and maximum 14 feet in height; weight: minimum 100 lbs. and maximum 4,000 lbs. Artwork should not contain sharp objects or edges and must be durable, require little to no maintenance, be graffiti resistant, and be prepared for installation.
Selected artists will receive a $2,500 stipend for transportation, installation, and de-installation of their artwork. Cash awards are provided by HBID: 1st Place: $1,250; 2nd Place: $750; 3rd Place: $500. Artists must transport, install, and de-install their own artwork, with assistance and equipment available upon request. All sculptures must be attached to a steel plate bolted to a concrete base. Selected artists must submit a detailed installation plan including artwork title, artist contact information, dimensions, weight, connecting plate dimensions, bolt specifications, required equipment, and number of people needed for installation. Sculptures may be purchased from the exhibit and added to the City's public art collection.
Application deadline: March 29, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Submit up to five sculptures with a professional resume (limit two pages), artist's statement (one page with no more than 5 sentences per artwork), and two digital images per sculpture (front and back views).
