About This Call
The 12th Annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art is an invitational and juried exhibition open to all artists 18 years and older with plein air experience and experience painting the Grand Canyon from the rim. Applicants must submit a completed entry form, one-page résumé including contact information, three to eight professional-quality images of plein air artwork in JPEG format (minimum 300 DPI), and a non-refundable entry fee of $45. At least one image must be a Grand Canyon painting created from the rim. All entries must be received by January 15, 2020.
A panel of three to five jurors will review applications and select four to six artists to participate in the 2020 event. Accepted artists will be notified by email no later than February 1, 2020. Selected artists must submit a high-resolution electronic image of one studio piece by March 31, 2020 for the exhibition catalog. Artists will also create a minimum of five plein air paintings on site at the Grand Canyon between September 12-19, 2020. All completed works must be suitably framed and ready to hang. Artists must participate in the Quick Draw and Auction on September 19, 2020.
The exhibition runs through January 18, 2021. Awards include People's Choice Award, Artists' Choice Award, Best of Show: Studio Painting Award, and Best of Show: Plein Air Award. The Grand Canyon Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, retains a 50 percent commission on all sales. Artists are responsible for lodging, transportation, and the cost of returning unsold artwork. Contact Kathy Duley at [email protected] or 480-277-0458 for questions.
