About This Call

UNC Asheville invites artists to submit entries to a Juried International online and in-print exhibition of contemporary drawing. The exhibition seeks to examine drawing as it is practiced and defined by today's artists, demonstrating the continued significance of drawing through both conventional and innovative methods. For social distancing purposes, the Drawing Discourse Exhibition will be offered online and in print, with accepted work exhibited via UNC Asheville's Department of Art & Art History website and in a full-color printed catalogue, both debuting January 22, 2021. The digital and in-print platforms allow a larger quantity of work to be accepted and a broader scope of entries, including works whose scale, weight, or stability do not warrant shipping. All lectures and events will be held virtually.

Media is open to any traditional or experimental drawing media, welcoming both two and three-dimensional works, video, and/or installation. Submissions are accepted only via CaFÉ at http://www.callforentry.org/. Each artist may submit one image for a $30 non-refundable fee, with each additional image at $5 each, limit 6 images total. Applications must be received by December 13, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MST. All entries will receive email notification of juror results no later than December 30, 2020.

Awards include $2,000 in cash prizes chosen by the juror, plus a purchase prize award for the UNC Asheville Department of Art and Art History permanent collection. The juror is Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum, who will open the exhibition with a virtual lecture on January 22, 2021. Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years of age or older. All work must be original and cannot have been previously exhibited at UNC Asheville. Each accepted artist will receive one complimentary copy of the exhibition catalogue.
