About This Call
The 12th Annual Art for Alaska's Parks 2020 is a competition designed to celebrate the beauty of Alaska by showcasing representational artists and enhancing public awareness of Alaska's publicly accessible recreational areas. The competition is open to international artists.
Accepted mediums include oils, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, alkyd, tempera, mixed-media, pencil, charcoal, pastels, pen & ink, alcohol inks, encaustic, and cold wax. Artwork must be two-dimensional and representational, depicting places or things found in Alaska's municipal, borough, village, state, and federal parks, recreational areas, forests, historical sites, preserves, marine parks, wildlife refuges, sanctuaries, ranges, and critical habitat areas that are open to the public. Subject matter must come from locations available to the general public and cannot be from privately owned lodges, campgrounds, corporation fee permit lands, or private club lands with member-based access.
Entry deadline is August 21, 2020. The awards ceremony will take place Friday, October 2nd, 2020 at Stephan Fine Arts Gallery inside the Hotel Captain Cook, Anchorage. The top 30 finalist and winning works will remain on display through October 31st. Entry fees are $35 for Art for Alaska's Parks participants and $20 for AAG members, plus a $10 media fee. Submissions should include 1-3 images with title, price, and description of location and inspiration. Judges will evaluate entries on artistic merit, visual impact, creativity, composition, design, and craftsmanship. Awards include: Grand Prize $1000, 2nd Place $500, Best Landscape $250, People in the Park $250, Best Wildlife/Bird $250, People's Choice Gift Certificate ($100 value), and Peer's Choice Gift Certificate ($100 value).
