11th Annual Mountain Maryland Plein Air Competition & Exhibition

The 11th Annual Mountain Maryland Plein Air Competition & Exhibition takes place June 15-20, 2020, in Cumberland, MD. A total of 30 artists will be selected to participate. The entry fee is $40.00 and includes submission of three digital images representing the applicant's plein air body of work, along with a brief artist statement. The deadline to enter is February 28, 2020, with notification on March 17, 2020.

Selected artists are expected to arrive Monday, June 15, 2020, and remain through Saturday, June 20, 2020. Artists will paint daily through Thursday, June 18, 2020. On Friday, June 19, 2020, completed paintings will be installed for the Collector's Reception. Artists may collect their work at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2020. Required events include Artist Orientation (Monday morning), Welcome Event (Tuesday evening), Collector's Reception (Friday evening), and Quickdraw (Saturday morning). Work produced during the event may not exceed 30" in width, including frame. Participating artists are responsible for framing and preparing artwork for installation onsite.

Prizes include Best of Show ($3,000), First Place ($2,000), Second Place ($1,000), Third Place ($800), Best Nocturnal Scene ($500), Best Use of Light ($500), Best Architectural ($500), and Artists Choice ($300). Quickdraw prizes include Juried Artist First Place ($800), Second Place ($400), Third Place ($200), Community Artist Award ($100), and Student Artist Award ($50). The Allegany Arts Council charges a 35% commission on artwork sold during the event. Artists are not permitted to arrange private sales during the event. Artwork will be insured for 65% of its retail value. Artists are responsible for lodging costs; host housing with local families may be available.
