About This Call
The 11th Annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art is an invitational and juried exhibition open to all artists 18 years and older with plein air experience and experience painting the Grand Canyon from the rim. Applicants must submit a completed entry form, one-page résumé (including contact information), and three to eight professional-quality images in JPEG format (minimum 300 DPI) of plein air and studio artwork, including at least one Grand Canyon image painted from the rim. The non-refundable entry fee is $45. All submissions must be received by January 15, 2019.
A panel of jurors will review all applications and select four to six artists who, together with returning and invited artists, will comprise the event participants. Notification of acceptance will be emailed by February 1, 2019. Accepted artists must submit a high-resolution electronic image of one studio piece by March 31, 2019 for the exhibition catalog. Artists must also complete a minimum of five plein air paintings on site at the Grand Canyon between September 7 and September 14, 2019, featuring Grand Canyon National Park subject matter. Blank canvases will be stamped with an official event insignia during artists' orientation on September 6, 2019. All works must be suitably framed and ready to hang.
The exhibition runs through January 20, 2020. Awards include People's Choice Award (voted by the public during the Quick Draw event), Artists' Choice Award (selected by participating artists), Best of Show: Studio Painting Award, and Best of Show: Plein Air Award. The Grand Canyon Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and official nonprofit partner of Grand Canyon National Park, will retain a 50 percent commission on all sales. Artists are responsible for lodging, transportation, and the cost of returning unsold artwork. Contact Kathy Duley at [email protected] or 480-277-0458 for questions.
