100 West Washington Public Art Project

The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture Public Art Program is requesting qualifications from artists for a new public art commission at the 100 West Washington Building. This is a design-team opportunity to develop enhancements to security access points that will help define the look and feel of the building. The chosen artists will work with a team of engineers, architects and other professionals to design the public art features.

The 100 West Washington Building will include multiple opportunities for artworks integrated into the security barriers, fences, planters and other architectural features. The facility is intended to serve a variety of public safety functions, including Phoenix Police Department headquarters, and will be used 24x7x365. The focus of this call is to help design features that keep building occupants safe while presenting an attractive and creative addition to the downtown Phoenix streetscape and adjacent public plazas. This is a fast-track project expected to be completed in 2023.

The budget for design and construction oversight is up to $114,000, covering the artist design fee and all costs associated with the design process and construction oversight. Fabrication costs will be determined as the project moves toward construction. There is no application fee. Applicants must submit a Statement of Intent (1000-character limit), Resume or CV (3-page limit per artist), Image List (1-page limit describing up to 6 digital images), and up to 6 jpg images of previously created artwork. The selection panel will review all applicants as a blind jury; do not include your name or identifying information in images or statements. Arizona artists are strongly encouraged to apply. City of Phoenix employees, Phoenix Arts and Culture Commissioners and their immediate family members, and selection panelists and their immediate families are excluded from participating.
