Around Town: Building Community Through Art

Please read these instructions carefully; the procedure for this call for art is a bit unusual because you only need to submit a placeholder image (a selfie is fine) and the name of the local personality you would like to portray (plus two alternates in order of preference in order to avoid several artists portraying the same personality) Choices will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

1. In the CATEGORY field, please choose your media. In the DESCRIPTION OF WORK field, please type the name of a local personality you would like to portray plus two alternate choices in order of preference. In the TITLE field, please re-enter your preferred personality choice.

2. Upload a placeholder jpeg of anything you like. (A selfie is fine. This is simply so that the Entrythingy software will accept your entry; what's important is the names you enter in the DESCRIPTION OF WORK and TITLE fields.) Remember, in order to submit entry you must choose a placeholder image, open it, upload it, click SUBMIT ENTRY, and then make payment in order for your entry to be submitted.

3. After you submit, you will be notified which one of your personality choices has been accepted. Please obtain appropriate permission, if required, from your subject.

4. 2D size limited to 36 inches maximum on any side. 3D sculpture submissions welcome!

5. Art can be framed, or unframed, but must be gallery-ready. Each piece should reflect the standards used by galleries and museums. It must be finished and ready for exhibit. It must have an identifying label with your contact info securely attached to the back of the piece.

6. FRAMED PIECES: We encourage you to use a good quality wood frame, but any frame that enhances the art is acceptable (black is preferable). A wire that is strong enough to support the piece should be securely attached to the frame with D-rings or other comparable hardware. Pieces must be no deeper than 3 1/2 inches. The wire should be 2 1/2 to 3 inches down from the top of the piece. NO SAW-TOOTH HANGERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

7. UNFRAMED PIECES: Unframed canvas that has been wrapped or painted around the sides may be submitted. Hanging guidelines described above apply to unframed canvases as well.
