The entry form asks for 'Description'. This is where you DESCRIBE the PROCESS/TECHNIQUE as specifically as possible so the Guest Curator will understand what she/he is looking at. (NOTE: 'Photography', 'Collage', 'Lithograph' and other TECHNIQUES are NOT MATERIALS, they are the process that should be noted in the description ALONG WITH the materials). The description is only to describe the art making process. It is NOT an artist's statement or philosophy. Examples of DESCRIPTIONS with MATERIALS are: 'Inkjet print of digital photograph on archival paper', 'Solid ink print of iPad drawing on paper', 'Dye sublimation print of digital photograph on aluminum', 'Lithograph printed with Litho ink on archival paper', 'Acrylic on canvas', 'Giclee print of oil painting on canvas', 'Glazed ceramic', 'Stoneware and glaze', 'Found images and ink on artboard', 'Mixed media', 'Digital collage of found images inkjet printed on paper', etc.
Acrylic, polystyrene, or Plexiglas is REQUIRED in place of glass in framed work. Artwork framed behind glass WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. If you have questions about framing with plastic, please email the Gallery Director at
[email protected].
Unframed paintings on stretched canvas and prints on aluminum, Plexiglas (acrylic), polymetal, or other solid backing materials are acceptable, provided they have a HANGING WIRE on the back. Jewelry MUST be mounted on matboard or other rigid board and FRAMED with hanging wire on the back. We do not exhibit or sell unframed prints or unmounted jewelry.
It is suggested that artwork that is made of glass or other very fragile material should be framed behind Plexiglas or other plastic to protect the artwork as well as the public. Remember that our gallery is a public space and people DO touch art even though we have signage discouraging touching. So, please, consider the importance of protecting your art from potential damage. If you have questions about entering fragile art, please email the Gallery Director at
[email protected].
ALL ARTWORK MUST BE LABELED on the back, or bottom of sculpture and tag on jewelry with: TITLE OF PIECE, YEAR CREATED, MATERIALS, and ARTIST.
Pieces must be installation ready with a HANGING WIRE ON THE BACK; no sawtooth hooks. 2D ARTWORK WITHOUT A HANGING WIRE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
If specific installation materials (other than a wire) are needed, email the Gallery Director at
[email protected] before entering to secure approval. Specific installation materials should be included, along with clear instructions for installation, with the shipped or delivered work.
The Guest Curator will choose accepted pieces and artists will be notified by email of acceptance. Notification emails will come from: '
[email protected]', NOT Arts Illiana, so please check your Spam folder and/or email us if you have not received notification by September 19, 2022.
If you DO receive notification, PLEASE RESPOND WITH AN EMAIL to let us know that you have received notification and WHEN WE CAN EXPECT DELIVERY of your art.
The gallery reserves the right to reject any artwork due to inadequate preparation for installation, or for potential security or public safety issues. Any accepted and delivered works which differ in quality or are not representative of the digital file may be disqualified at the discretion of the Gallery Director.
Those whose works have been accepted are then responsible for transporting works to the gallery. Accepted work must be delivered or shipped to Arts Illiana Gallery, N. 6th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803 between September 19-30th Monday-Saturday 10am-?4pm.
If another time or day is needed for delivery, an appointment is required via email at
[email protected]. It is the responsibility of the artist to transport and insure (if desired) works in transit to and from the gallery. Shipped work must be packed in reusable containers to be returned by post, clear shipping instructions must be included, as well as shipping labels, FedEx or UPS prepaid labels, or prepaid USPS postage.
Artists must sign the Loan Agreement upon delivery of their work to the gallery.
