City of Georgetown Main Street Program Mural Project

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all Texas residents (excluding City Staff and Board members)

ENTRY FEE: $25 (covers up to 3 submissions)

PRIZE: $2,000 (Georgetown’s Main Street Program covers reproduction and installation costs)

CONTENT AND MEDIUM:

--Artists are encouraged to research Georgetown and to choose content that reflects an aspect of Georgetown’s past, present or future, according to the artist’s interpretation.

--Artists may submit traditional, contemporary, impressionist, abstract, photos and digital two-dimensional works of art.
--Entries may be made up of single images, collages, or panels; i.e., any image or series of images that will completely fill the 10’x30’space.

SELECTION PROCESS: A panel of community stakeholders and personnel distinguished in the visual and/or community arts will review submitted images to select the winning entry. Please note that the City of Georgetown and the Main Street Program reserve the right to make no selection, if entries are deemed inappropriate and/or inadequate.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
-- Original artwork must be proportional and scalable to the existing space
-- Artwork must be original, bold, and engaging; reflect positively on Georgetown; and highlight the City’s support to the Arts.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
1) Artists must submit one (1) electronic image in JPEG (.jpg) or VECTOR (.eps) format per entry via (website). We will accept electronic images only, not actual pieces of work.
2) Entries must include artist’s name, contact information, artwork title(s), mediums, date of artworks, dimensions of piece and a narrative description of the artist’s vision of Georgetown and how that vision is expressed in their submitted work

TIMELINE:
August 16, 2013 - Entry deadline. Materials must be posted by 4:30 PM.
September 2013 – Winning artist notified
October 12, 2013 – Mural unveiled

PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS: Images of the selected artwork may be used on promotional and other materials. Materials will be used to promote the unveiling of the Georgetown mural and may be offered for sale. The artist will retain all rights to the original artwork but will give permission to the City of Georgetown to use images of the selected artist’s work for promotional materials.
