ART MAKER is a curated contemporary art publication run and juried by artists. Released two to three times per year, our magazine features emerging and mid-career artist, presented in a professional yet accessible format. Each issue is shared directly with our network of 100+ galleries, curators, and arts professionals to help artists reach the right audiences. It’s designed to go beyond exposure — toward real relationships, opportunity, and support within the contemporary art world.
COVER PRIZE! New this issue, the artist whose work is chosen for the cover of ART MAKER 6 will receive $150 USD to BLICK Artist Materials (or the equivalent in their country). We are so excited to add this to the Open Call!
This issue's theme is OPEN. Send us your best work - the work that you are most proud of.
All mediums are welcome, including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, textiles, collage, printmaking, video, animation, sound, performance documentation, installation, digital/interactive work, and experimental forms.
FEES: $16 for up to 4 images, $24 for up to 10 images.
WHERE DO YOUR FEES GO?: We strive to keep our open calls accessible and the funds received keeps us running! They cover our running costs, compensate our jurors, cover contest prizes, and help pay our tiny staff. We are independent, ad-free, and artist-run! **We have a small scholarship fun for artists located in a region experiencing war, famine, or severe poverty. Please email Meg at [email protected] for more information.
NOTE: Please upload the correct number of pieces per your pricing tier. If your tier does not match the number of pieces submitted, we will email you requesting the remaining funds in order to consider your entry complete. For example, if you submit 8 images, but submit your fee for $16 (up to 4 images), we will email you with an invoice for the remaining $8 required in order to consider your application.
Selected artists will receive:
*A 2-page feature in ART MAKER Magazine Issue #3 - print and digital, with no additional publishing fee
*Exposure on an international stage - copies of ART MAKER are received by our mailing list of 100+ galleries and curators, each cycle.
*The option to be interviewed and discuss your practice further in our magazine, extending your feature to 4 or 6 pages.
*Features on our website, growing social media channels, and in our newsletter
*A complimentary digital copy of the magazine
*Deeply discounted print copies of the magazine on our website
The selected cover artist will receive: $150 USD to BLICK Artist Materials (or an equivalent art materials store in their country). Equal compensation will be made if the winning artist is located in a country without such access.
About the juror, KURT STIMMEDER:
Kurt Stimmeder (b. 1972, Bad Leonfelden, Austria) lives and works in Linz. He paints in oil
and works in lithography, developing a form of psychological, gesture-based figuration that
locates inner tension in the body and in the hands.
In 2026 the international jury of the OSTEN Biennial Skopje awarded his work the First
Award for Art on Paper; the awarded work remains in the collection of the OSTEN Museum,
Skopje. The award ceremony takes place in Skopje on 17 December 2026. In the same year,
CREA Cantieri del Contemporaneo, Venice, granted his work a Special Mention for the
Quality of Research at CREA OPEN 2026.
His work has been the subject of art-historical description at the Katholische PrivatUniversität Linz, is held in the art collection of the Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich, and
was filmed by the University of Art and Design Linz for Re:Frame.
Recent presentations include the solo exhibition In a Forbidden Moment, Galerie Makowski,
New York (2025); Art Miami during Art Basel Miami Week (2025); We Art Open 26, SPUMA
Space, Venice (2026); Galerie Dumas Hors des Murs at 59 Rivoli, Paris (2026); and Art
Revolution Taipei (2023, 2024). His work has been featured on the cover of CREATE!
Magazine (Issue 53) and in Aesthetica (Issue 128).

*Applications are open to artists 18 years of age or older, worldwide. We will collect your full birth date to verify age, and will published your birth year to conform with international academic standards (ie: Julia Artist, b. 1986).
*Artists must submit at least 3 images to be considered.
*Accepted artists will receive deeply discounted digital and physical copies of the magazine. Please note discounts on physical copies are only available to mailing addresses in the United States due to incredibly high shipping rates. Copies are also available on Amazon (unfortunately they do not allow us to discount them). *There is NO ADDITIONAL FEE to be published in the magazine.
*All images must be 300dpi, clear and well-lit. Blurry or lo-res images will not be accepted.
*By applying, applicants testify that all artwork is original and that they are the copyright owners.
*Commercial artwork submissions are welcome as long as the applicant has permission and / or copyright ownership. The artist is solely responsible for correctly citing any copyright ownership and permission exceptions. ART MAKER Magazine is not responsible for any errors in the artist’s provided copyright or permission information.
