Artist Statement

My work begins with curiosity about the world around me, particularly the colors, textures, and patterns found in the landscape. I am drawn to the interplay of light and shadow and the unexpected abstract compositions that emerge through close observation. I often lose track of time simply looking.

Mark-making is central to my practice. Whether working with oil, cold wax, encaustic, or other materials, I enjoy the physical experience of creating a surface. My curiosity about materials and processes continues to shape my work, often leading me in unexpected directions.

Although my paintings frequently begin with recognizable places, faithful representation is not my primary goal. I want to capture something essential about a place while allowing color, texture, and individual marks to develop their own visual interest.

I hope my paintings invite viewers to move closer, linger, and discover abstract relationships within familiar imagery. For me, the pleasure of painting lies as much in the process of exploration as in the finished work.
