Artist Statement

Painting is a process of discovery for me. I present the space of an imagined universe. That imaginary environment is a structure, sometimes it contains creatures: their physiques, life cycles, and activities. Those are all preoccupations inflected by my study in art, anthropology, and urban planning.

What happens on heavy French Arches paper or a bed-like white canvas is mind interacting with medium. I let that unfold in ways that surprise me and teach me. I follow as much as I lead.

I believe that an artist fully motivated by creative urgency always draws on everything they know and--most importantly--searches tirelessly for what they do not yet know.
