Joe De Haan
Contemporary assemblage artist with focus on abstract deep sea creatures, based in Gloucester, Massachusetts
Artist Statement
My practice consists of using found seashore objects to create abstract deep sea creatures, ocean scenes, and themes of maritime history. There is little to no modification of materials used, preserving their weathered natural forms. Medium and techniques are entirely experimental. Making art is a deeply personal pursuit for me and plays a big role in my mental health. Finding it later in life has improved who I am as a person, changing the way I feel, think, and communicate. For me art is not at all like a hobby, I live art 100 percent of the time, as art is everywhere and in everything.
