Linda Sirow

Artist Statement

Linda Sirow is an Amagansett and New York City-based abstract artist working predominantly with encaustic wax, reflecting her love of color, movement, and the creative process. She wordlessly expresses inner thoughts and emotions through her work.

Initially drawn to sculpture, she later found that as a working mother of three living in Manhattan, she had neither the time nor the space necessary for the practice. She turned to painting and the challenges of working on a flat surface. Once she discovered encaustics, there was an immediate affinity for its alluring character, texture variations, physicality, and natural ability to reveal depth.

Ms. Sirow gets inspiration from nature, and from the ways people relate and react to each other and the world. Favorite artists such as Eva Hesse, Helen Frankenthaler, and Georgia O'Keefe have influenced her development. She trained at the Boston Museum School and Pratt Institute. Ms. Sirow taught art at the Dalton School in New York City for twenty-seven years and is currently an adjunct faculty member at Hunter College.

Her encaustic/mixed media painting, Connections III, resides in the permanent collection of the Museum of Encaustic Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and abroad.
