Artist Statement
I am an emerging photographer living in Montgomery County. My photography takes me far beyond the Washington D.C. area in search of compelling images. My biggest inspiration for photography is the living landscape, which in turn has shaped a gallery full of wild spaces and natural beauty. My artistic practice is rooted in experimentation. I treat photography not just as a tool for documentation, but as an evolving platform where digital manipulation, alternative editing and raw capture intersect. I believe that photography is a doorway to evoke memories, feelings, and to tell a story. My work also honors the fundamentals of traditional photography, applying them where they serve the subject best, while ensuring my final perspective offers an interesting viewpoint.
Ansel Adams and Georgia O’Keefe are two of my favorite artists and have influenced some of my work. I am drawn to landscapes that possess the dramatic depth to thrive in either full color or classic monochrome. O’Keefe inspires me to magnify flora and use interesting lighting. I recently tried my hand at still-life photography. It was a steep learning curve, but one that I found very rewarding and was able to produce a few photos that I am gratified to share. I will continue pushing the limits of my current abilities, as I strive to become an exceptional photographer.
I am also the proud author and illustrator of a published children’s book; Hudson Learns a Lesson. The book is about a gosling that gets into trouble after making a big mistake. This book truly began as a heartbeat project—a way to leave a meaningful legacy for my family and the generations to come. The inspiration struck after I spent two weeks following a real geese family. Using my original photographs I creatively transformed those captured moments into beautiful watercolor illustrations to bring Hudson’s journey to life. The book can be ordered through Amazon and Barnes and Noble. ISBN# 979-8-8230-0521-0
