Artist Statement
My artistic practice is deeply inspired by the law atmospheric beauty of the Pnw from the fluid expense of our lakes to the heavy canopies of a trees, a dramatic cloud formations and regional topography. Rather than capturing the literal landscapes, my works operate at the intersection of external geography and inner reflection. I translate the physical environment into abstract composition that explore emotional depth, memory, and the passage of time. Working with my 2D medium, I interpret the textures, rhythms and shifts of the PNW climate as mirrors for internal psychological states. A looming cloud structure becomes a vassal for introspection, the layered contours of a local topography mimic the complex layers of a human emotion. Living and working in King County, the natural world provides me with a boundless visual vocabulary to explore our shared vulnerability and resilience. I invite viewers to connect with their own emotional landscape with a serene evocative sprit of the region we call home.
