Artist Statement

I'm Samwel Kitinya a Tanzanian Nature Guide and Visual storyteller based in Tanzania. My work is a conversation with the sea.

For quite some time i have been going to the coast not only to take photographs, but to observe. The sea remains vast and silent. In that quiet, i pay attention.

This series of 5 black and white photographs is titled THE CALM SEA. Each image addresses healing, reflection, and our connection to the coast as part of our ecosystem.

1: The palms show resilience.
2: The breaking wave speaks to letting go.
3: The fallen tree points to what is lost when our environment is damaged.
4: The lines in the sand refer to memory of the waves.
5: Voice of silence. This is how we see ourselves clearly.

My work is not only about beauty. It is a statement. Protect our sea, so it can continue to protect us. What heals deserves to be honored.
